Help replacing ToH (and plan a native garden instead!)

I just moved into a new house (Northeast US) where the previous owners planted a Tree of Heaven – looks like it must have been intentional but now I’m stuck dealing with it. I’ve already gone through the “Hack n Squirt” process with triclopyr and am now waiting for the tree to die before I can take it down. It’s a big boy, something like 40′ tall. Anyway, I’m wondering how long the allelopathic chemicals stay in the soil, and whether the triclopyr poses a threat to anything else I try to grow there (Did my best to avoid contaminating the soil directly). What can I grow there instead, and how long do I need to wait before I plant?

I also have a decent amount of other space in my backyard that I’d love to turn into a tiny food forest, if anybody has suggestions for what might grow well in these conditions I’d love to hear them! Haven’t done soil testing yet but plan to soon.
