Yumbah Aquaculture, Closer to Buying Leading Yellowtail Kingfish Producer Clean Seas Seafood

The Australian company received the recognition Best Responsible Seafood Producer from the ASC

The fully integrated Australian aquaculture company Clean Seas Seafood (CSS), a global leader in full cycle breeding, farming, processing and marketing of its Hiramasa or Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi), has entered into a Scheme Implementation Deed (SID) with Yumbah Aquaculture by which Yumbah will acquire 100% of the shares in CSS by way of scheme of arrangement, and would acquire all shares in the company for AUS .14 (USD .09, EUR .08) per share.

Yumbah is an Australian-owned unlisted public company that operates a vertically integrated investment grade shellfish aquaculture portfolio with operations in South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales. Its central is based in Port Lincoln. Business News Australia has reported that the deal is worth AUS 28.1 million (USD 17.1 million, EUR 16.2 million).

CSS IBC member Katelyn Adams said: “The merger of Clean Seas and Yumbah represents a strategic alignment that enhances operational capabilities, market reach, and long-term growth potential. By combining expertise in aquaculture and sustainable seafood production, the combined entity will be well-positioned as a leading provider in Australia’s aquaculture industry.”

The two companies already have strong links: Anthony Hall, the director of Yumbah, is the largest shareholder in both, while Gary Higgins, a director of Clean Seas, is a director and chairman of the board of Yumbah.

Two Strong Companies

Clean Seas Seafood is an aquaculture business listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and with a secondary listing on Euronext Growth Oslo (OSE). Clean Seas is a global leader in full cycle breeding, farming, processing and marketing of its Hiramasa or Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi) and is renowned amongst leading chefs and restaurants around the world for its exceptional quality.

For its part, Yumbah operates a vertically integrated investment grade shellfish aquaculture portfolio with operations in several places in the region. The company delivers premium produce from spat through to harvested products, supplying farmers, wholesalers and retailers with sustainably farmed shellfish. This company is one of the largest producers of abalone in Australia, specializing in onshore production of this prized shellfish. In addition, the Yumbah group produces oysters, mussels, aquafeed and oyster spat.

Prestigious Annual Awards

In the other hand, recently Yumbah Aquaculture has been recognized at the 2025 ASC Sustainable Seafood Awards Australia, winning Best Responsible Seafood Producer, and celebrating Yumbah’s Rebecca Pedler as a joint winner of Young Person in Aquaculture. Hosted by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), the prestigious annual awards celebrate organizations and people who make significant contributions towards responsible aquaculture farming and sustainable fishing practices.

Yumbah CEO, David Wood, said that “the recognition reinforces the company’s dedication to embracing environmental and social responsibility in every aspect of its operations. Yumbah understands that prioritizing sustainability will help us achieve our vision, and will help to drive economic growth, stronger communities and a healthier ocean ecosystem for the long term.”

“We are honored to be recognized for our enduring commitment to sustainable farming practices across our farms in Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia. It’s a testament to the hard work and stewardship of our people, always going above and beyond to preserve and cultivate the environment,” he added.

Wood also congratulated Rebecca Pedler as a joint winner of the Young Person in Aquaculture Award. “This highlights her dedication to research, as well as her commitment to continuous learning and growth within the industry and we are proud that this has been recognized in this award.”
