Rare Wright’s gardenia reappears in record numbers in Seychelles

Conservationists find critically endangered species thriving on Indian Ocean island of Aride

Record numbers of Wright’s gardenia, one of the world’s rarest and most fragrant trees, have been counted on the tiny tropical island of Aride in Seychelles.

The only place in the world where the critically endangered tree occurs naturally is on the 72-hectare granite island in the Indian Ocean. The tree was once found on other, larger islands in the Seychelles archipelago but its sturdy wood was harvested for firewood, leading to its disappearance from everywhere except Aride.

Bob Brown urges Greens to punish Labor at election if Albanese amends law to protect salmon farming

Bob Brown urges Greens to punish Labor at election if Albanese amends law to protect salmon farming

PM’s pledge to protect Tasmanian industry will weaken laws already failing to protect natural sites and at-risk species, environmentalists say

Former Greens leader Bob Brown has urged the minor party not to preference Labor ahead of the Liberal party in Tasmanian seats at the upcoming election if the Albanese government legislates to effectively exempt salmon farming from national environment laws.

Conservationists have sharply criticised Anthony Albanese’s pledge that he will rush through legislation next week to protect the salmon industry in Macquarie Harbour, on the state’s west coast, from the potential results of a long-running legal review.

I've done quite a bit of research on no-till gardens- how do I make this work with little time?

The context is that I secured a garden plot in a community but the wait list didn’t open until March 17th, so I wasn’t sure if I’d get a plot.

The plot I got is in a “shady area” so I’m not expecting any success due to this. However it is also an untilled plot. I’ve gardened with a group but never alone, and never in an untilled plot. So I’m not sure what I can do with limited time. I’m in zone 6, near Pittsburgh PA. I’ve never seen the plot (will go this weekend). So if it’s truly shady, like all day shade, then this will change my plans and I won’t try these plants below.

I’m going to attempt (if there’s enough sun)

Lettuce

Bush beans

Onions

Broccoli

What I’ve learned:

Putting cardboard down, wetting it, then adding compost is a start. However, there’s no mention of when/where to sow the seeds. Am I supposed to make some holes in the ground and sow the seeds, then add the cardboard and compost?

What can I realistically do if I’m going to expect to sow seeds in a month? Will cardboard be broken down enough? If I use mulch do I sow the seeds then add mulch on top? Will the sprouts be strong enough to get through the mulch? This is what I don’t understand- it seems to heavy for the sprouts.
