Savill Garden (Windsor, England)

The Savill Garden is named after its creator, Eric Savill (he became “Sir Eric Savill” in 1955). He was appointed Deputy Surveyor of Windsor Park in 1931 and began the garden shortly after that for King George V and Queen Mary.

The garden comprises 35 acres, and done in a naturalistic style, with winding pathways that meander through woodland areas, perennial borders, forests of oak trees, streams, ponds and water gardens.

How do you organise permaculture groups or meet others locally? I built a website to help build local communities – seeking feedback!

I’ve built a simple website for organising local groups and meetups, mainly because I wanted:

  • an alternative to Meetup without high costs or paywalls
  • an alternative to Facebook that’s focused on groups and shared interests, not feeds, ads, or noise

It’s web-based, already live, and aimed at helping people actually meet and build community, not scale endlessly.

I’d love feedback from anyone involved in permaculture since I’m personally interested in it so would love if my platform could help foster and build communities in the space:

  • How do you currently organise or find people?
  • Any specific features you’d find useful that Meetup/FB Groups doesn’t have?

Here’s the site if you’re curious:- radius.to – feedback is very welcome!

Freshwater Scarcity is no longer an unsolvable problem – Meet the “Industrial Tree” (Open Source)

Hello Permaculture community!

I want to share a solution for industrial-scale freshwater production that follows the core principles of permaculture: working with nature, not against it.

The Skoog Capillary Sweating Liana (SCSL) is a biomimetic offshore buoy that mimics the way a tree functions. It creates a completely mechanical, natural flow to provide clean water where it is needed most.

How it works (Nature’s logic): The Offshore “Root”: An offshore buoy connected to a 1,000-meter vertical “liana” (closed-loop pipe) that accesses the constant 4°C cold of the deep ocean.

Passive Condensation: Like a tree “sweating,” the buoy uses this deep-sea cold to condense ultrapure freshwater directly from the humid marine air.

Industrial Capacity: A single unit is designed to produce 12,000 liters of freshwater per day—entirely through passive and mechanical processes.

Natural Pressure to Shore: No pumps are needed to move the water to land. The system utilizes thermal expansion to create natural pressure, delivering the water directly to the coast through the buoyancy of the pipes.

Zero Maintenance: No chemicals, no filters to change, and no external electricity. It’s a robust infrastructure made from durable HDPE, designed for a 30–50 year lifespan.

Why I am sharing this here: This is a fully documented, Open Source (Creative Commons BY 4.0) technical framework. I believe that access to water is a human right. By mimicking nature’s own pressure and cooling systems, we can provide water to coastal deserts and regenerative farms without being dependent on an electrical grid or costly maintenance.

The solution exists. It is mechanical, it is natural, and it is free for the world to implement. Please share this to help spread the message—freshwater for everyone is no longer an unsolved problem.

Spain: Strong winds continue to batter Huelva as storms take toll on berry sector

Spain: Strong winds continue to batter Huelva as storms take toll on berry sector

On Thursday, February 5, strong winds have continued to blow across Huelva, where gusts of more than 70 km/h are expected along the coastal areas. The province has been heavily affected by successive storms which, while pushing reservoir reserves above 992 hm³, compared to 575.36 hm³ recorded on the same…
