Grand Opening of the New LifeStart Production Line of Skretting China in Zhuhai

Skretting China recently celebrated the grand opening of its new LifeStart production line in Zhuhai, Skretting’s first dedicated LifeStart facility in Asia. At the same time, they launched five new innovative hatchery feed products, for diverse species including salmon, tilapia, golden pompano, snakehead and catfish. According to them, the double celebration is significant as it signals Skretting’s confidence in the future of China’s aquaculture industry, and its commitment to supporting its long-term growth.

“Our ambition in LifeStart in China is high. We aim to be the undisputed leader in this space by 2030, particularly for salmonids, shrimp and marine fish,” says Bastiaan van Tilburg, CEO of Skretting.

As China is the largest animal protein market in the world, where seafood is second only to pork, Skretting and its parent company Nutreco have chosen to boost production capabilities to serve the LifeStart segment, and become the most value-driven nutrition company in China.

“China is one of the most dynamic and competitive markets globally, not just in scale, but in speed of development, diversity of species, and evolving customer needs. Within the global Nutreco organization, China plays an increasingly strategic role as a key market,” van Tilburg added.

Strong Opportunities in the Asian Country

According to them, LifeStart products are feed products fed to larvae and juveniles in the first few months of their life, in order to influence the quality and success rate of farming through the whole production cycle. The feeds can also be given to the parent animal used for reproduction, so as to influence the quality and yield of egg production.

The new range of LifeStart products from Skretting China are aimed at addressing key challenges in China’s aquaculture industry, such as weak fry resilience, susceptibility to disease, and slow growth rates.

“We believe Skretting has strong opportunities in China and across greater Asia because the industry is shifting toward more advanced, sustainable and performance-oriented farming practices,” said Jason Yang, General Manager of Nutreco China. “Customers are looking for more precise nutrition, better health support, and trusted brands. All of these align with Skretting’s global strengths.”

High Production Comes from a Good Start

Around the world, the production performance (e.g. milk yield, rate of weight gain, etc.) demonstrated by animals during actual production is usually about 30 to 40 per cent of their genetic potential. How an animal is fed in the early weeks of its life can have a significant and long-term impact on its lifelong health and developmental capabilities.

Investing in the juvenile and prenatal stages helps to maximize their potential, and as a company based on scientific research and continuous R&D, Skretting China continues to apply the results of its research and development to a wide range of species, including pig, poultry, ruminant and aquatic animals.

International Salmon Farming Technology Symposium

The company in China also reported that on April 28th, participated at the International Symposium on Salmon Aquaculture Technology, organized by Heilongjiang Fisheries Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences, Ningbo Sansheng Bio-technology Co. The symposium brought together salmon farming, vaccine and feed research institutes and industry pioneers from home and abroad to discuss the future of salmon farming in China.

As the demand for quality aquatic products continues to rise, China’s salmon farming industry is at a new development inflection point, said from Skretting China. “In the salmon business map, we not only provide farmers with life cycle nutrition solutions, but also optimize the formulation design through empirical data to help our customers achieve higher production performance and stronger competitiveness in the market,” they said.
