Caught something spectacular on camera this week at Lake Musconetcong in Stanhope: an osprey making two dramatic dives in search of fish. No catch this time, but the grace, focus, and power of the hunt were mesmerizing.
The weather was unreal—warm, sunny, and quiet enough to hear the wind ripple across the lake. The golden light made everything glow, from the water to the trees. It’s moments like this that remind me why Lake Musconetcong is one of New Jersey’s most peaceful and underrated spots—especially being so close to NYC.
It’s also widely known as one of the best bass fishing lakes in the state, drawing anglers from all over NJ and beyond. The ecosystem here supports a rich web of life—from aquatic plants to fish to birds of prey.
