Sustainable harvesting of bark materials any experience?

I’ve been learning more about tree based materials used in natural dyeing and herbal skincare lately, and I keep coming back to Mimosa Hostilis root bark. What caught my attention wasn’t just the use (dye, skin healing, etc.), but how the bark is harvested.

From what I’ve read, the best quality comes from mature trees, and there are some sellers who actually support replanting and regenerative harvesting models. I’ve been trying to be a lot more intentional about where I get things, so I went with a U.S. source that claims they only import from Brazilian farms using sustainable methods: mhrbusa

I know sourcing bark or roots can be destructive if done the wrong way, and that’s something I want to avoid. Does anyone here have experience managing or sourcing herbal materials in a more permaculture aligned way? Especially bark or root based products?

Would love to know what’s worked for folks or if there are particular species that lend themselves well to ethical harvest without killing the tree.
