Wood chips in the forest?

I am doing some agroforestry and have some defined beds. I’d like to go ahead and mulch those with some hardwood chips I’ve gotten from arborists.

How much of a risk am I taking by putting those chips in my forest? What’s the likelihood there’s something in them that could infect the trees and can that risk be reduced by letting them sit for a certain amount of time?

Edit – I recognize there is SOME risk, I’m wondering how much, if possible. AND what are some steps I can use to reduce that risk? I’ll also add that I already have the wood chips.
