Tips to help guide your labyrinth experience

Labyrinths exist all over the world and hold spiritual significance across cultures. A labyrinth has only one path in and the same path out, unlike a maze, there are no tricks or dead ends. The labyrinth acts as a mirror for an individual’s journey through life. The rhythm of walking, placing one foot in front of another, quiets the mind, relaxes the body and refreshes the spirit. In preparing your mind and body to walk a labyrinth, remember the three R’s: release, receive and return.

Release

Entering a labyrinth is the time to quiet the mind, let go of the details, distractions and extraneous thoughts. Open your heart to feel whatever it might feel. Become aware of your breathing. Relax and find your natural pace.

Receive

When you reach the center of the labyrinth, sit or stand there as long as you like. This is a place of reflection and meditation. Receive what is there for you to receive.

Return

When you are ready, follow the same path back out. Take back with you into the world what you have reflected on and received from the labyrinth.
